You’re very welcome! Haha I get that question a lot, and instead of writing out everything I’ve learned these last 9 months each time, I decided to put it all in an article and add to it as I go. I gained some new info that I haven’t added there yet, because I’m still proofreading it and looking for sources, but this is a draft of the paragraph I’m going to add:
“When considering tags, contributors to Medium should also keep in mind that to be named a Top Writer in a specific topic, you’ll have to frequently tag your posts with one of the eligible tags. For example, if you write lots of popular articles on politics, you will only be designated a top writer if you specifically tag those articles “politics.” When named a Top Writer, you will show up on the page for that specific tag; moreover, on your profile it will automatically show that you are a Top Writer and list the specific tags wherein you achieved that rank. “
(By the looks of it, some of the eligible tags regularly change)
