You’re either American or you’re not. The country is a mixed bag. You have no complaint when you benefit from good things that are the product of what Americans did before your family got here, but you want no responsibility for the bad done? People come and go, but the country remains; just as cells come and go, but the person remains. The country, as an entity, is responsible for its actions, so if you choose to be a part of the entity, you are responsible by extension.
