You already said it, but just to repeat: "Women" in this statement refers to all women, or women in general. In other words, it refers to the average woman. If the average man and woman don't settle for each other, then there aren't enough men and women to go around and most people just end up alone, with its myriad of detrimental consequences.

It harms all the men under 6ft who, by no fault of their own, end up alone. It harms all the women who end up alone. Being single effects a person's wealth, reports of happiness, physical health and longevity, mental health, etc.
