100% it all gets blown out of proportion and turned into a boogeyman. That being said, one of the reasons that the actual examples of overreach are so bothersome is because it undermines the rest of the movement.

To be fair, that's basically unavoidable with the cynicism of modern politics. Both left and right are usually more focused on the fringe elements on the opposite side than the actual mainstream--and we use that perceived radicalness on the other side as a reason to self-radicalize.
