That was a powerful Ted talk, though I’m not sure I understand the direct relevance. The ability for love to endure despite circumstance shouldn’t be confused for the capacity to love.

I’m often confused at what makes a person feel entitled to speak on all parents. I suppose they have experienced the love for a child, or the love from a parent, and have assumed it must be in all quarters the same.

There are genetic and epigenetic changes that make for lower oxytocin levels and varied oxytocin receptor distribution throughout the brain. These make for “bad” mothers in humans and other mammals. There is a wealth of data available on the subject.

I thought it was interesting when I posted “Why Writing Takes Courage” and a woman commented that it doesn’t, that it’s just something that wannabe writers say to make themselves feel better, and that my post was a fluff piece — interesting because her comment proved my point. I also think it’s interesting that you’ve used your comment to make yourself an example of what I was speaking out against in this post.
