Thanks! Okay, so in terms of promoting, I already wrote an article for people who ask me that question:

In terms of actual writing, you’re probably going to want to get an app like grammarly to help with proofreading and grammatical errors.

Also, an article’s formatting has a big effect on the initial perception of professionalism. Most successful writers format their work with a title, subtitle, photo, photo credits, and body (with heading and subheadings if it’s long enough). You can see this formatting in the article I put a link to above, “How to Promote Your Medium Posts.” The title, subtitle are both different fonts. The photo and the photo credits are underneath them. If you play around in the editor, the formatting is pretty self-explanatory, but if you have any questions I’d be happy to answer them. You can find free photos at unsplash.com, pexels.com, and other sites. I came across an article on formatting, but I found it annoyingly complicated.

Obviously, write on whatever you want, but you should know that Medium does kind of have a few niches. Articles on self-improvement, relationships, entrepreneurship, personal stories, writing, design, politics, etc., are likely to perform best. Looking at the topics page and the top performing publications will give you a pretty good idea of what does best on here. (If you click on those underlined words, it’ll take you to those pages.)

Hope this proves helpful! Any questions?
