So Much for Paper

Make stupid decisions.

In the history of the world, there was never a couple who seemed perfect for one another on paper and ended up being so in reality. The deepest love comes when what’s wrong in one wants what’s wrong in the other.

So it is that the most competent is rarely the one with the longest resume, or the best product the one most highly lauded. It pays one to make uninformed decisions, for by the most crucial measure, that of the final outcome, there seems to be little correlation between what appears to be best and what in fact will be.

In some ways, it should be obvious: There is widespread recognition that intelligence is central to competence and, simultaneously, that we are found woefully bereft of a true measure for that most important quality, how then can we adequately select people to fill positions, whether it be for leader or for worker? Likewise, we really have no clear understanding on how best to achieve health or educational outcomes, and so how can we rely so readily on this or that assessment or certification? Just the same, most have little understanding of what really makes for a happy relationship, or happy life, or even a happy night, and so how can they be expected to select from presented variables and factors to get there?
