October 7th Was Israel’s 9/11 — in Every Way
Terrorism has succeeded in its aim only when it causes its victims to lose their way
The October 7th attack was a horridly brutal act of terrorism which claimed the lives of more than 1,160 people in Israel. Hamas fighters slaughtered Israelis like animals. The atrocities of that day were so abhorrent they will forever be remembered as yet another black stain on humanity’s already vile record of committing indescribable acts against our fellow man. As an American, the only parallel I can find in our history is the horrendous 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. Unfortunately, the similarities don’t stop with the initial act. Israel is following the U.S.’s bad example in its response to that day.
Innocent people were killed by the thousands in the attacks on the Twin Towers. It’s an unforgivable act and a tragedy that Americans will never fully recover from. However, while a principle of justice allows that the lives of those who perpetrated such an act be forfeited as retribution, being massively wronged does not allow any nation carte blanche exemption from foolish and immoral acts in response. Declaring an unwinnable “war on terrorism” and invading countries that were, at best, only tangentially related to the incident were errors to the highest degree. The immorality of running…
