I've had odd experiences with race in my life because I'm white-passing (mostly white), and I grew up in the U.S., but in a city that is over 80% Black. When I'd go on thereafter to be at mostly white organizations for school or work, I'd always end up making Black friends and feeling more comfortable around Black people generally.
It's an irony because I grew up getting called "cracker" by all my friends and standing out that way. There are certainly interesting dynamics that stem from these different population mixes.
