In regards to comedians, I’d say they largely play on stereotypes. Chapelle, for example, had sketches where he went around to test whether or not White people can dance, or he had the “stereotype pixies.” It’s no wonder. A lot of times stereotypes, being that they’re absurd, are funny. But I don’t know that we can generalize, sometimes it’s political and has a serious grounding, other times it’s just silly and good for a laugh—like Chapelle’s Hispanic pixie urging a man to get leopard printed seats.
