I'm not sure that example tracks. Statistically speaking, it would be the case that most men are attracted to women, so it makes sense that you'd tell them you're gay early on.
However, the vast majority of men are straight, and if a man approaches us while giving us zero information to the contrary, it's an odd thing to be worried about. Moreover, this very often persists after a man has said he's not gay. The other guy is likely to be skeptical if he continues to show a friendly interest in him.
