One study shows that crying can activate your parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). This system is the one responsible for your body’s rest and digestion mechanism. After a stressful and overwhelming situation, the PNS helps keep you relaxed and calm. People who cry may have noticed that after minutes of crying, they feel comforted and pacified even if crying doesn’t directly solve the problem at hand.
